Celebrating a Milestone: Achieving FITI Status
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: I’ve been awarded the title of Fellow of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (FITI). This distinction is the highest recognition a translator can receive in the UK, and I’m honoured to join the ranks of esteemed professionals who have achieved it.
A journey of dedication and growth
Reflecting on my 25-year career, this milestone represents more than just a title. It signifies years of honing my craft, building trust with clients across various sectors—including human rights organizations, cultural institutions, educational bodies, and children’s publishers—and continuously striving to contribute positively to the translation profession.
From my early days as an Associate member of the ITI to now becoming a Fellow, the journey has been marked by continuous learning, collaboration, and a deep commitment to excellence. I’ve had the privilege of working on projects that not only challenged me professionally but also resonated with my personal values.
Giving back to the profession
Beyond client work, I’ve always believed in the importance of contributing to the broader translation community. Whether it’s through mentoring emerging translators, participating in industry events, or sharing insights via publications, giving back has been an integral part of my professional ethos.
Looking ahead
Achieving FITI status is not a culmination but a commitment to uphold the highest standards of our profession. It’s a reminder of the responsibility we carry as translators to bridge cultures, convey nuanced meanings, and uphold the integrity of the original message.
